Isolated shapes are simply shapes that are not connected into the process flowchart.  When shapes are unintentionally isolated, Visio connector tools can be used to easily incorporate these shapes into the flowchart.  (See the 'How to draw a business process flowchart' section for more information about connecting shapes.)  Oftentimes, however, isolated shapes will be title blocks, swim lanes or notes that are intentionally disconnected.  Isolated shapes will be ignored when ProcessView performs analysis of a model.  To suppress isolated shape warnings, however, isolated shapes may be placed in a layer and ProcessView can be instructed to ignore the contents of specific layers using the DoNotIncludeLayers attribute in the Page shape data.

Similarly, for some callout shapes with connectors attached to them (annotation shapes), ProcessView will issue an error indicating there are disconnections in the process flow diagram.  If there is a desire to instruct ProcessView to ignore these annotations and callouts with connectors, again, the DoNotIncludeLayers attribute in the Page shape data can be utilized.

Isolated Shapes

In order to place shapes in a layer, review the 'How to assign shapes to a layer in Visio' instructions.  Once shapes are assigned to a layer, simply add the layer to be ignored to the DoNotIncludeLayers attribute in the Page shape data as shown below.
